Yuko Rade

Developed over five months of animation, Synthetics by Yuko Rade is this week’s Music Video of the Week at the Berlin Music Video Awards. Built from a deeply personal concept, the project merges music, storytelling and handcrafted visual language into a carefully structured symbolic journey where atmosphere and narrative evolve in parallel.

Created by Yuko Rade @yukorade in collaboration with animation studio Soulproprietor soulproprietor.studio, the video began with the song’s lyrical themes before evolving into a fully developed storyboard. Through detailed discussions, shared influences and a strong alignment in visual storytelling, the three-person creative team translated concept into a cohesive animated world.

Lyrics and vocals by Kayrae @kayraelien anchor the emotional tone of the piece, guiding the narrative arc while leaving space for interpretation.

Rather than centering around a single defining image, Synthetics unfolds as a complete journey from beginning to end. Each scene was crafted with precision and care, forming a unified visual experience that invites the viewer to interpret its meaning for themselves.
